Student Organizations

Psi Chi - Psychology Student Honors Program

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology. Membership in Baylor Psi Chi is open to students who are majoring in psychology  and who meet the minimum qualifications.

Requirements for membership for undergraduates includes:

  • Completion of at least 3 semesters or equivalent of full-time college coursework
  • Completion of 9 semester hours or equivalent of psychology courses
  • Have earned a cumulative GPA that is in the top 35% of their class (sophomore, junior, or senior)
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in both psychology classes and cumulative grades

Psychology Club

The purpose of the Psychology Club is to provide all psychology majors, regardless of GPA, psychology-related opportunities for service, socializing, and networking for gaining further knowledge of psychological science and the Baylor Department of Psychology and Neuroscience for gaining lifelong learning skills in a changing discipline, and for guidance about how to choose a career, how to find career opportunities, gaining entrance to graduate and professional schools, and career paths for those with bachelor degrees.

Nu Rho Psi - Neuroscience Student Honors Program

Nu Rho Psi is the National Honor Society in Neuroscience, founded in 2006 by the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience. The purpose of Nu Rho Psi is to:

  1. Encourage professional interest and excellence in scholarship, particularly in neuroscience;
  2. Award recognition to students who have achieved such excellence in scholarship;
  3. Advance the discipline of neuroscience;
  4. Encourage intellectual and social interaction between students, faculty, and professionals in neuroscience and related fields;
  5. Promote career development in neuroscience and related fields;
  6. Increase public awareness of neuroscience and its benefits for the individual and society; and,
  7. Encourage service to the community.

Who may join?

Membership is by invitation and is open to undergraduate men and women who are making the study of Neuroscience one of their major interests and who meet the other academic qualifications. Nu Rho Psi is also open to qualifying Neuroscience faculty and alumni of Neuroscience programs.

Requirements for membership include:

  • Major in Neuroscience or Pre-Major in Neuroscience
  • Completion of at least 3 semesters of college courses and a minimum of 45 semester hours
  • Completion of at least 9 semester hours of courses in neuroscience or neuroscience-related fields (biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, psychology, and statistics) that are required for the B.S. degree in Neuroscience (see below; please include any neuroscience courses you have taken at Baylor)*
  • Minimum of a “B” (3.0) in NSC 1306 Introduction to Neuroscience and NSC 1106 Introduction to Neuroscience Laboratory
  • Minimum of a 3.2 cumulative overall GPA
  • Minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA in all courses in neuroscience or neuroscience-related fields that are required for the B.S. degree in Neuroscience
  • Only courses taken at Baylor University will be counted when considering GPA or the completion of the nine semester hour minimum for neuroscience or related courses

Neuroscience-related courses required for the B.S. degree in neuroscience:

PSY 1305, 4400

BIO 1305-1105, 1306-1106

CHE 1301-1101, 1302-1102

MTH 1321

PHY 1408 and 1409; or 1420 and 1430

STA 2381

*Applicants for membership may request consideration of other neuroscience-related courses, such as introductory psychology, human physiology, and organic chemistry.

Neuroscience Student Association

The purpose of the Neuroscience Student Association is to encourage the exploration of the field of neuroscience while fostering interaction between undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty interested in the field. In addition, we hope to encourage members to take advantage of these learning opportunities through community service, organization meetings, and social/academic events in hopes that they will help each member succeed in their career choice.
