Psy.D. FAQs

Annually, we receive approximately 300 applicants. Of those, 30 are invited to the required in-person interview. Typically 6-8 students are admitted to the program. Therefore, the acceptance rate is approximately 2%.

  • Most important is a close match in interest/experience with a Core Clinical Faculty member's research.
  • At least 12 credit hours of Psychology coursework are required, however, those with Psychology degrees are preferred (a Master's degree is not required)
  • All admitted students have strong recommendation letters that describe the applicant's work ethic, dependability, and performance in a relevant setting
  • Nearly all admitted students have a GPA of 3.5 or higher in undergraduate and/or graduate-level work
  • We strive to foster a rich, inclusive, and culturally diverse training environment. Applicants from a variety of cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

All application materials are due by December 1st at 11:59 PM EST.

No, we do not accept any transferred courses from any institution. This is a lock-step, cohort style program, so all students, regardless of previous degrees earned, start at the same place.

The program is a five year program, with four years in-residence in Waco and the fifth year completing an internship at an APA-accredited internship site.

All students who are accepted into our program have tuition paid. However, student fees and cost of living are not covered. Stipends are received for your work done at practicum sites years (1-3) and during your research/dissertation year (4).

Yes, all students must complete and successfully defend a dissertation in order to complete Baylor's PsyD program.

No. Many of our current students enter the program with a bachelor's degree, though some have earned a Master's degree as well. You will earn a Master's of Science in Clinical Psychology at the mid-point of year 3 in the program, and then will continue on (without having to reapply to the program) to earn your PsyD at the end of year 5.

Yes, all students have a faculty mentor who they study under for the duration of the program. This includes performing research alongside this faculty member and coauthoring papers with them.

Students leave for internship with approximately 1200 clinical hours, far above the national average.

As of the time of this writing, we have 31 students currently enrolled in the program.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate Campus Visits for Prospective Applicants. As part of our admissions process, invited applicants come for an in-person interview day, where they have access to our facilities, current students and faculty.
