About

Welcome to the Baylor University Department of Psychology & Neuroscience. This is a vibrant and busy department, with approximately 1,000 undergraduate majors, 60 doctoral students, 25 full-time faculty, and three full-time staff members. We offer a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. The primary department facilities are located in the Baylor Sciences Building, B.309, a state-of-the-art science facility housing 12 different research laboratories. The department also supports the Baylor Psychology Clinic, located at 801 Washington, a teaching clinic that provides assessment and therapy services to Waco and the surrounding areas. We offer doctoral degrees in Psychology (Ph.D.), with tracks in Behavioral Neuroscience, Social Psychology, and General Experimental Psychology, and an APA-Accredited Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.).

We encourage you to review our faculty directory to see the different types of research our faculty pursue. Prospective undergraduate students can learn about degrees, courses, and related topics here. Prospective graduate students can learn about our doctoral program in clinical psychology here and our Ph. D. Program in psychology here.

Our departmental mission statement: Consistent with the Goals articulated in Baylor University’s Pro Futuris and the College of Arts and Science’s ASpire, the mission of the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is to provide exceptional educational experiences for both graduate and undergraduate students. We strive to produce students skilled in critical thinking about behavior, informed about underlying neural mechanisms, and able to respond to others with understanding and compassion, always informed by science.

Therefore, the department:

  • Engages with students through traditional classroom experiences like lectures and seminars;
  • Provides a thorough grounding in science and the scientific method in all areas of psychology and neuroscience;
  • Provides a core grounding in research methods, statistics, and writing;
  • Encourages faculty/student collaborations at all levels, and encourages faculty/student publication and presentation of those collaborations;
  • Facilitates the opportunity for exceptional students to gain clinical experience through supervised clinical volunteer activities;
  • Encourages all students to become curious and critical life-long learners; and,
  • Models the highest standards of professional and ethical behavior in a caring and Christian environment.
